I just uploaded the first installment of glossary entries.
All the higher order and quarter wave enclosures are left to do.
I added a paypal button to the confirmation page after the request form is filled out.
Work won’t begin on enclosures until the paypal payment is made.

Pretty soon I’ll be incorporating a glossary into the site.
It’ll include a gallery of different enclosure types and explanations. Hopefully it will help people visually identify and understand some of the basic properties of various boxes.
Thanks to Kenneth for suggesting this improvement. Here are some of the images that will go in the gallery.

PS: The duplicate image up there is due to transmission lines and quarter wave pipes having the same structure. The stuffing isn’t shown in the transmission line picture.
The new form is online now, instead of the old text document that got filled out before.
The request page has been changed to reflect this. You’ll also note that pricing info has been updated. It’s a flat rate for all enclosures now.
Hopefully this change streamlines things a bit.

My time lately, and for the foreseeable future has been divided up into many small chunks. Charging by the hour isn’t feasible anymore. Therefor the way boxes are paid for will be changed. Also there have been some outstanding accounts, and in order to eliminate that in the future, all designs will be paid for ahead of time. The designs will be priced according to what type of enclosure is specified. Before it was just based on the amount of time that went into the box. Anyways this should simplify things quite a bit. Also Paypal will be the only form of payment accepted. It might take some time for me to implement these changes. All current orders will not be affected by the changes. Email me if you have any questions.

Wow where has the summer went?
Well now that it is over it means I’m back at the University working on my Bachelor of Engineering. That’s also why there was a bit of a service outage for a week.
Sorry about that everyone, I thought I could make due with a 5 year old dell inspiron. Turns out I was wrong. Anyways things are up and running smoothly again.
Picked up 4 MCM 8″ subs. Built a 1/4 wave pipe for a pair of them. The output is quite flat from 27Hz to 60Hz or so, with a peak at 80Hz or so, and it rolls off from there. Luckily the peak isn’t as bad as predicted by hornresp, since the walls of the box aren’t infinitely rigid, and the Q of the box isn’t infinity. Regardless, the peak doesn’t matter too much, as it’s crossed over at 50Hz anyways. The towers I use as my mains can actually cover the close to same range as this sub anyways(they’ll play flat down to 30Hz). But unfortunately my receiver wont sent the LFE channel to the mains and 50Hz is the lowest I can cross them over at. I wish the crossover was defeatable. Well it is if I put it on direct mode, but then I lose all the sound processing…so no DTS or Dolby PL2. Anyways the subs in the 1/4 wave pipe are working excellent. Due to the very high bandwidth(low q) of the MCM 55-2421 they can play a fairly large range of frequencies flat. The next step is to change it from a 27Hz tuning to 18Hz.
That’s all for now. I’ll be updating this much more often now that I’m not as insanely busy.

This was a build for a very good friend of mine. I usually just design boxes.
For this build we had 2 tang band W8 740C subwoofers on hand. The goal of the enclosure was to extract as much performance from these subs as possible with only 400Wrms on tap.
A secondary goal was to protect the subs from any more physical harm, since unfortunately their dust caps had been pushed in. Due to the high EBP it made sense to put them in a 6th order bandpass.
The bandpass was tuned in such a way that it would sound good on rock, punk, and metal while still being able to dig down into the low 30s when asked to.
Simply put: it sounds good. Not at all similar to the one note wonder prefabricated bandpasses most people are used to hearing(and detesting).
Now we just need to dress it up and make it look good.

Things are going well. There have been a number of requests lately. This is great. I really appreciate the recommendations people are making. It really helps out since I have yet to start advertising on any websites.
I fixed the broken searches on the pages. It now uses Google.
I plan on posting build pics from customers as soon as they come in.
I think that would be pretty cool.
Also thanks to Joe from RidinLoud Productions. He’s been helping out with graphics and set up. I’ll post some of them up sometime. Right now I’m trying to keep everything simple.

I’ve been working at this site for about a week now. It’s going well, but I keep hitting little snags. Major props to all the web designers out there…this stuff is tough.
Anyways right now the blog looks kinda crappy. I’m going to try to figure out how to make a template that matches my home page.
Enclosure designs are going well. Hopefully I’ll be able to post up peoples builds and the designs on here. I think that would be really cool.
Anyways if you guys see something wrong with the site(like images not showing up…just had that today to fix) email me, or leave a comment here. Or even if you just want to leave a suggestion.
Thanks,
-Jud
